Above is a quick sketch I completed and the reference photo I used to create this final illustration.
I knew I wanted to create a bold, bright illustration with the last three colors (blue, yellow, and pink). The shades of red and brown were attributing to Cicely Tyson's skin tone and complementary hues.


I chose to draw Cicely Tyson: I decided to illustrate her because to contributed significantly to my culture and society in general. She is a well known talented actress and very much respected in black culture. 

I chose the colors used: I chose the colors because they are bright, fresh, and eye-catching. The warm colors selected were to compliment the subject.

Why was the woman drew in such a way: I illustrated her in the style I chose because it represents a 90's & 80's time era, a time era in which she stared in many roles.
Above is a time lapse of my illustration I created using Adobe Rush. The time lapse is from start to finish.
